Week-long programmes to mark Earth Day

Various organisations will celebrate the Earth Day on April 22 in Kathmandu by organising a week-long programme beginning on Friday. Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of Urban Environment Section of Kathmandu Metropolitan City said that besides the KMC, Clean Energy Nepal (CEN), US Embassy, Environment and Public Health Organisation (ENPHO), World Vision, Electric Vehicle Alliance Nepal, Explore Nepal and 35 Nature Clubs as well as the general public will participate in various events."We will organise a series of programmes to show the general public that they too can contribute in saving this earth and environment," said Bhushan
Tuladhar, executive director of CEN.
The team will visit the houses of Bhushan Tuladhar at Kalimati, Mukunda Bhattarai at Sitapaila and Dr Roshan Raj Shrestha at Swayambhu on April 17 to see how one can contribute to safe environment and reap personal benefits. A cooperative clean-up programme "Milijuli" is being organised in Swayambhu on April 18. A talk programme on the optimisation of water at ENPHO office and an eco-quiz are scheduled to be organised at the City Hall on April 19. Likewise, on April 20, an art competition is being held at Paropakar High School and on the final day, April 22, there will be a tree plantation drive, environment exhibition and cultural programmes with earth as its theme.
