Wheelchair basketball league with Swiss support

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal has extended its support to the ongoing Turkish Airlines ENGAGE Empowering League (EEL), a wheelchair basketball league being held in Kathmandu since May 28.

The League, which will take place for seven consecutive weeks till July 9, aims to make people aware about those living with disabilities, particularly in wheelchairs, and their participation in sports.

This event, with an interactive setting, can be an apt opportunity for youth to interact with people with disabilities, get to know them, discover new talents and promote them, the Embassy said in a statement on Thursday.

The event is being organised by the ENGAGE, a non-governmental organisation working to empower youth and people with disabilities, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) as a co-convener.

Recalling the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Embassy said it welcomed ENGAGE’s initiative.

It also expressed its hope that the event would help an inclusive society develop in the country.

ENGAGE aims to continue to support such activities and help people with disabilities build their confidence to actively participate in programmes in the future as well, the statement added.
