BHAKTAPUR: A woman died after being hit by a tipper in Lokanthali of Bhaktapur district on Thursday.

Indira Bijukchhe (49), a resident of Bhaktapur Municipality-5, died after being hit by the vehicle (Ba 4 Kha 3020) in Lokanthali on Thursday.

The accident took place as the speeding tipper hit the scooter (Ba 34 Pa 6312) that she was pillion riding with her husband Rajman (55), who was injured in the incident.

Rajman is undergoing treatment at the Nagarik hospital in Gatthaghar, DSP at the Metropolitan Police Circle Shyam Babu Oliya said.

The tipper driver, Shiva Bhujel of Manthali-9, Ramechhap, who had fled the scene of the accident, was taken into custody by police from Koteswar.

Soon after the accident, an agitated crowd vandalised the tipper and tried to set it on fire leading to a clash between them and police.

The situation was later brought under control.
