Women pressure group moves rights body

KATHMANDU: A women pressure group today pressed the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) demanding the implementation of its recommendation in relation to a rape case of a woman police in Achham District Police Office.

The group urged the constitutional rights body to implement its report and punish the police personnel involved in the gang-rape of their female colleague on October 1. The women pressure group was led by Sahana Pradhan and Radha Gyawali.

The commissioners of the NHRC, however, told them that they have already forwarded the NHRC’s recommendation to the government and now it is up to the government to implement its recommendation.

NHRC chairman Kedar Nath Upadhyaya and commissioners, however, urged the women leaders and activists to pressurise the government to implement its recommendation. “We have clearly

told them about it and now it is up to them (the government) to decide,” Gauri Pradhan, Commissioner and Spokesperson, NHRC, said.
