Work responsibly, PM tells secretaries

Kathmandu, March 18

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today directed Cabinet ministers and secretaries to carry out their duties efficiently.

Addressing ministers and secretaries at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, the PM asked them to work responsibly and ensure efficient service delivery. PM Oli directed them to work keeping in mind the importance of every minute. “Set targets and work accordingly,” he said, adding that no work should be delayed on any pretext.

He said the incumbent government would take suggestions from everyone but would not come under anyone’s pressure. “The government will receive suggestions from everyone but will not take any decision under pressure,” said the PM.

He said the country could not be developed with traditional mindset. “People at the decision-making level should change their traditional mindset as this government has huge responsibilities,” the PM said. He said the government’s motto was to make the country prosperous and ensure happiness of all citizens. He directed all the secretaries to work in planned way to achieve the set targets.

He said that it was not acceptable that the country was mired in poverty despite its huge energy, tourism and industrial potential. “Even people begging on the streets would get employment opportunity to support their families,” he said.

The PM also warned the staffers against lobbying leaders for promotion. He said although the country was dependent on remittance sent by Nepali migrant workers, only a limited portion of the money entered the country through legal channels. “The country will earn billions of rupees more in revenue if migrant workers send money through legal channels,” he said.

The PM also said that the government would adopt zero tolerance policy towards corruption. Ministers, deputy ministers, chief adviser to the PM, chief secretary, secretaries and chiefs of security agencies were present at the meeting.
