Workers set ablaze housing colony
KATHMANDU: A fire ripped through a housing colony under construction in Saraswoti VDC- 4, Tokha, today causing damages worth millions of rupees.
The fire, which is apparently set by some disgruntled construction workers, is said to have originated from the basement of one of the sections of the colony owned by City Developers.
Fire-fighters belonging to the Rapid Response Team in Kathmandu and Lalitpur jointly fought back nearly four-and-a-half hours to douse the massive blaze. However, no casualties were reported.
“The construction workers vented their anger at the colony after the contractors showed indifference to rush one of their colleagues to hospital for treatment,” ASI Jaya Ram Thapa at the incident site quoted a stirring worker as saying.
A construction worker named Bhagawati Chaudhary had accidentally fallen off a seven-story colony in course of construction work yesterday.
The fire destroyed properties and facilities worth over Rs 10 million, said Thapa citing a preliminary investigation.
They agitating workers also set fire on a vehicle parked in the premise of the colony.
Police have detained three workers for questioning.
