Youth held for swindling man with fake USD bills

KATHMANDU: A youth has been arrested for his alleged involvement in swindling a person of Rs 800,000 in the name of US dollar exchange.

Ganga Bahadur Dumjan (26) from Barhabise VDC-4 of Sindhupalchok district was nabbed from Duwakot, Changu Narayan Municipality-13 of Bhaktapur.

After the victim Palsang Tansi Gurung (26) from Muktinath VDC-1 of Mustang reported to police that two persons took away Rs 800,000 from him while handing over a bundle of fake US dollar bills.

Two persons riding on a motorcycle (Ba 65 Pa 2809) had cheated Gurung in Satdobato of Lalitpur on June 1.

Gurung then had filed a complaint with the Metropolitan Police Crime Division describing the case and the suspect.

Earlier, the suspect had called the victim claiming he had to exchange the USD bills with Nepali rupees at a cheaper rate to reconstruct his house destroyed by the earthquake, police said.

After repeated calls, Gurung had agreed to meet him and had taken the money for exchange, police said.

Meanwhile, police also confiscated the bike used by the suspect and bundles of USD bill-sized papers from him.

He has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur for further investigation and action.
