Youth to mark Jan 1 as National Costume Day

KATHMANDU: A loose network of youth campaigners has called all to mark January 1 of every year as Nepal's National Costume Day.

They said they would organise a function at Maitighar Mandala of Kathmandu on Friday to mark the Day.

In a press statement, the organisers have asked all the people from each nook and corner of the country to support the programme by coming to the venue in the national dress and/or uploading the pictures of wearing similar attires on social networking sites.

Interested people can join the event at 8 am on January 1.

They said the Day could promote a feeling of patriotism among youth.

Though only uploading the photos and being clad in the national attire do not safeguard our nationality, it can promote the nationalist feeling while Nepal's nationality is in jeopardy, reads the statement.

Those taking initiatives for the campaign include Gyan Mani Nepal Kalotopi, Ghanashyam Shrestha, Shiva Dhital, Ramji Balami, Janarjan Paudel, Rajesh Khatri and Kamal Phuyal.
