The participants at two different workshops on youth consultation for Nepal Development Forum-2004 highlighted the need for conflict resolution and political stability for achieving the development goals in the country. "We should start thinking about building a self-reliant economy, rather than being dependent on donor agencies," said Chiteez, one of the participants. Another participant, Arun Bhattarai, stressed on the need for development efforts to be equally spread out, be it in education, health or social reform. Another issue brought forward was the lack of recognition and acknowledgement about the problems of youth in the country.

The participants also highlighted the need for youth parliament and increased employment opportunities. Speaking at the workshop, Rajendra Joshi from World Bank gave a brief overview on the history of foreign aid in Nepal and the role of the youth in development.

Altogether 40 youths involved in different sectors participated in two workshops today. One was participated by youths involved in business, entrepreneurship and professional fields, while another was participated by youth involved in social service and activism. "The outcome of the four workshops conducted so far has been overwhelming," said Rajendra Mulmi, president of Youth Initiative and coordinator of the programme. "This could be a good start in involving youth, who constitute 27 per cent of the population, as partners in development and decision making."
