KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 9

On the occasion of its 75th milestone meeting, Jhapa Toastmasters Club conducted a joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Birtamode on 6 November 2022, at Hotel The Kingsbury, Birtamode.

The event commenced in line with the strategic alliance formed between two long-standing organisations -- Toastmasters International and Rotary International -- in May 2019. The alliance draws from the strength of their many similarities and complementary differences.

The programme has been marked as the first-ever joint meeting of the two organisations in the history of Nepal.

The highlights of the event were a keynote speech by Rotarian Jayendra Rimal, a panel discussion conducted by TM Pushpanjali T. Sinha with the panelists - Moon Pradhan, DTM (Club Growth Director, District 41,Toastmasters International), TM Anju Pradhan (Club Growth Director, Area B4), Rtn Kumar Giri from Rotary Club of Birtamode and Rtn Sujan Pradhan from Rotary Club of Kakarvitta, who shed light on how Toastmasters International, which is dedicated to serving the world by building individuals' communication and leadership skills and Rotary, which is dedicated to serving the world through service, can come together to make a bigger impact.

As part of the alliance, Toastmasters developed online leadership and communication courses, based on the Pathways learning experience, specifically for Rotary members. This was followed by a table topics session which is an impromptu speaking session in a Toastmasters meeting, award ceremony, felicitation of the guests, and hi-tea.

Toastmaster of the Evening (TMoE) Priyanka Sharma conducted the meeting on the theme 'Milestones'.

The event saw an attendance of over 60 guests who joined physically and virtually over zoom including members of Jhapa, Biratnagar, and Dharan Toastmasters Clubs, Division B Director TM Jenny Manandhar, Area B4 Director TM Saroj Tamrakar, Immediate Past President TM Vinita Goyal along with members of Rotary Club of Birtamode, Birtamode Midtown, Rotract club of Birtamode midtown , Rtn Om Krishna Bimali and Rtn Min Prakash Mainali (President and Past Presidents of Rotary Club of Birtamode respectively)and other guests.

The current president of Jhapa Toastmasters Club TM Sandhya Rathi said she was immensely proud to be a part of the team that added a page to the legacy of collaboration between the organisations which Deepak Menon, DTM, President, Toastmasters International 2019, and Mark Daniel Maloney, President, Rotary International 2019, created.

She further added that progress is measured by milestones and for Jhapa Toastmasters Club, this is just the beginning!
