Radisson receives EarthCheck Silver Certificate

KATHMANDU: Radisson Hotel Kathmandu has been awarded the Silver Certification by EarthCheck — a leading environmental management, benchmarking and certification company in travel and tourism industry sector.

The certification, that was awarded to the Hotel recently, recognises its strong environmental performance. “I would like to congratulate whole team at Radisson Hotel Kathmandu on their achievement. Radisson is a valued member of a global group of tourism operators who dare to make a difference,” a press release issued by the Hotel quoted Stewart Moore, Founder and CEO of EarthCheck as saying.

EarthCheck measures key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to provide a holistic picture of operational performance.

The Hotel has managed to reduce its energy cost by 30 per cent and water consumption by 20 per cent as compared to the previous year through its eco-friendly practices as per the press statement. And some of those sustainable initiatives include — not changing the bed sheets and towels until the guests request for it, using eco-friendly chemicals in housekeeping and laundry among others.

“We are honoured and proud to achieve such recognition, as it reflects our staff’s commitment to taking action for constant improvement by responsible business practices. EarthCheck’s benchmarking allows us to measure ourselves against global industry standards, a valuable resource that gives pointers on where we do well, and where we can do more. This certification has helped us in implementing our efforts in sustainable business practices to save the planet for our children in the future,” the press statement quoted Janet Fitzner, General Manager, Radisson Hotel Kathmandu as saying.
