Speaking the Language of Fashion

KATHMANDU: “Fashion is an instant language” — and 42 aspiring and professional designers will be speaking their minds through their magnificent collections at Ruslan The Himalayan Times TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2017. Translating the thoughts and feelings of these designers, 18 models will walk the ramp wearing their creations.

The event, which is scheduled to be held from April 5 to 8, will be hosting an after-show sales event where attendees can purchase the hard-work of the designers. A certain amount from the proceeds will be going to Maiti Nepal.

A fun-filled after-party awaits… DJ Suraj will start with his beats, pulling the crowd to the dance-floor.

The glam-filled event is sponsored by Ruslan in association with Tresemme, powered by Mahindra KUV100 and SilkAir as the airline partner. Eighteen best models, who have been selected through an intense audition, will be strutting the most extravagant ramp.

Two professional designers talk about how they will be adding to the glam factor.

Your previous experience at TGIF Nepal Fashion Week  and your expectations this year

TGIF is the biggest platform for any designer in Nepal. It has given a platform for not only professionals but for upcoming designers as well. I had showcased my first collection ‘Sparkle’ in 2016. It has been a very successful year for me as it has helped me boost my career more productively. This year I am looking forward to more creative and beautiful designs. I am eager to showcase my two outstanding collections which I believe everyone would love.

Your collection

I am going to showcase two collections this year. The first collection

‘Behuli’ is inspired from different regions of Nepal and its rich cultural heritage. I will be modifying traditional Nepali chaubandi choli into comfortable design without losing its essence. Every detail is handmade and finished very carefully. I have used zardozi, appliqué and crystal embellishments in my designs along with fabric manipulation to give dramatic effects to the fabric texture. My second collection ‘Chaotic Beauty’ is all about evening wear — mostly A-line, silhouettes, mermaid and body-con dresses. I will be using red, pink, gold, black, grey colours in those designs. I will mostly be playing with fabrics such silk and tulle.

What is different about and why should clients buy your designs?

First and foremost, this time I am going to present two sequences at the event. It is going to be something different as I have tried to revive the age- old tradition.

Modern trends

Theme: ‘Si’ Spring/Summer

Bringing together simplicity and innovative designs, Siwangi Pradhan has reached the height of success within a short time. The creative designer is all set to wow the audience once more at the TGIF Nepal Fashion Week.

Your previous experience at TGIF Nepal Fashion Week, your expectations this year

TGIF Nepal Fashion Week is the only show that raises the bar for the designers to work harder and show the best in them, as all good designers showcase their collections on one platform. I have been working with the show for a very long time now. You can’t expect to get the same level of professionalism, punctuality, good audience and overall great event coordination anywhere else in Nepal

Your collection

My collection is basically ‘Si’ Spring/Summer collection this time. I have used a lot of fresh colours mostly pastels and some minimal colours. It’s a ready to wear collection mostly.

What is different about and why should clients buy your designs?

My collection has a lot of body hugging dresses to flo-wy gowns to summer wear. I have used organza, satin and nets mostly. My collection is meant for all kinds of women. It is very causal yet classy so I hope people would be interested to buy them.
