Summer Love now in English

KATHMANDU: Translating a literary text in different language(s) is beneficial for the readers and writers. While the readers get a chance to read the books in desired language, the readership of the translated text also increases. Many Nepali texts too have been translated in different languages including English to meet the readers’ demand. The latest book in this league is Summer Love.

The bestselling Nepali novel of author Subin Bhattarai — Summer Love — is now available in English language. An English translation of the novel was released by actress Priyanka Karki amidst a programme organised at Pokhara on August 15 as per a press statement issued by FinePrint, the book’s publisher.

“I am overwhelmed by such a large crowd. It shows Nepalis have started reading and that reading is alive and kicking in Nepal. While reading the book I felt as if the book was originally written in English. I think the translator has done a wonderful job,” the press statement quoted Karki as saying.

Meanwhile the novel’s author Bhattarai said, “Now that Summer Love has come out in two languages, I feel I am marrying the same person twice.” Pratima Sharma has translated the text for its English version and Bhattarai seemed satisfied with the translation. “Most of the English translations of Nepali books are literal and don’t quiet retain the feel of the original but this translation retains the beauty of the original language as the translator has tried to capture the meaning rather than translate word for word,” he was further quoted in the press statement as saying.
