KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 11

Election Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar has warned that strict legal action will be taken against activities that violate the Election Code of Conduct in view of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

Speaking at an interaction program in Dhangadhi on the effective implementation of the Code of Conduct, Dr. Tuladhar said the Election Commission is committed to ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election environment.

She stated that complaints can be filed against violations of the Code and clarified that legal action will be initiated if allegations are substantiated. "The election is not solely the responsibility of the Commission but a shared duty of political parties, candidates, media and citizens," she said.

Participants at the program stressed the need for strict enforcement of the Code to ensure credible elections.

During the program, Sudurpaschim Province's Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Hira Sarki, said free and impartial elections are not possible without rigorous compliance with the Code of Conduct. Similarly, former Government Secretary (Law) Phanindra Gautam and election officials also presented on related legal provisions.
