1.7mln fine collected after clampdown on electricity theft in Mahottari

GAUSHALA: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Mahottari Distribution Centre has collected revenue of Rs 1.7 million from those involved in electricity theft for the past 10 months.

The amount was collected in fine after a clampdown on electric power hooking.

The Centre's Chief Hardev Prasad Gupta said that 195 persons were held for stealing electricity from September 2016 to June this fiscal year.

NEA team accompanied by Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel also seized television sets, motors, fans, power inverters and stabilisers from households belonging to people involved in the electricity theft.

The Centre has also cut off the power supply to 945 consumers who have not paid the electricity bills dues for months.
