1 dead, 1 hurt as motorbike rear-ends tractor in Saptari

KATHMANDU: A person died and another sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding rammed a tractor from behind in Surunga Municipality-4 of Saptari district, on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as motorcycle rider Saroj Chaudhary (33), son of Shuva Narayan Chaudhary of Kanchira, Khadak Municipality-3 in the district. Likewise, the injured has been identified as pillion rider Laxmi Chaudhary, son of Shambhu Lal Chaudhary of the same village.

Police Inspector Birendra Kumar Paswan at Kadarbona-based Area Police Office said, the motorcycle (State 2-01 001 Pa 5264) rammed the tractor (Sa 1 Ta 3086) heading towards Kadmaha Chok from Gaighat, from behind, at Kanakpur in Madhupatti area, at around 10:25 pm on Monday. Saroj died on the spot while the pillion rider sustained injuries, Inspector Paswan told THT Online.

The motorcycle rider succumbed to head injuries while the pillion rider has a fractured collar bone, a witness said.

Body of the deceased was taken to Ram Kumar Sarada Uma Prasad Murarka Memorial Hospital in Lahan Municipality for postmortem while the injured has been receiving treatment at Lahan-based Neuro Hospital.

Meanwhile, a search is on for the tractor driver who fled the scene immediately after the incident, the Inspector informed.

Body of the deceased would be handed over to his family, police said.
