1 dead, 9 injured as jeep overturns in Chitwan

RATNANAGAR: A person died and nine other sustained injuries after the Sumo jeep they were travelling on met with an accident in Rapti Municipality-2 along the East-west Highway of Chitwan district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as passenger Goma Ballav (21) of Basamadi in Makawanpur district, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prabhu Prasad Dhakal at District Police Office, Chitwan.

The injured have been identified as jeep driver Rabindra Syangtang of Hetauda, Bijaya Gole (19), Padma Gole (21), Srijana Gole (20) Pramila Gole (20), Imas Syangtang (11), Dibika Maya Thing (25) all residents of Bhimphedi, Bina Lama (24) of Basamadi, Shova Lama (22) of Thaha Municipality-4 in Makawanpur district.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Na 1 Ja 3609) en route from Nawalpur to Hetauda lost its control and overturned beside the road in Gadauli yesterday, killing one and injuring nine.

The injured have been undergoing treatment at the Bharatpur-based College of Medical Sciences.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
