1 killed, 2 injured in Kaski avalanche

POKHARA: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries after being struck by an avalanche at Bagar near Deurali base camp in Annapurna Rural Municipality-11 of Kaski district, on Wednesday.

Spokesperson at District Police Office (DPO), Kaski, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Kumar KC said, a 16-year-old boy Sanjaya Khanal of Pokhara-5 was killed on the spot.

"We could not bring the body to Pokhara as helicopter could not land in the area due to bad weather. As soon as the weather clears, we will bring the body to Pokhara," DSP KC added.

However, two others, who were rescued by a helicopter and brought to Pokhara, are undergoing treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in the Lake City, DSP KC shared.

Both of them are said to be in stable condition, according to police. They were all buried by the avalanche while trekking around the area, this afternoon, police said.

It takes an 18-hours walk to reach the site, from Ghandruk, in the district.

Meanwhile, a police team from the DPO and Ghandruk have been mobilised in the area.
