10 injured in Nepalgunj bus accident

NEPALGUNJ: At least 10 people were injured when a passenger bus en route to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu got into an accident in Janaki Rural Municipality of Banke district today morning.

Three of the injured who have sustained critical injuries are identified as Khadak Chaudhary, Anima Tharu and Ranjan Tharu, all from Rajapur Municipality-5 in Bardiya district.

According to Sub-Inspector of Police Om Paudel at District Traffic Police Office, Banke, the incident occurred when the bus (Na 6 Kha 6261) used its emergency brake to avoid hitting a motorcycle travelling in front, and then tried to change the lane without turning on the sidelights. The sudden use of emergency brake caused the bus to lose control and it overturned onto its side at Ganapur along Nepalgunj-Kohalpur road section.

It has been reported that visibility at the time of the incident was low due to the fog.

The critically injured trio have been referred to Lucknow for further treatment from Nepalgunj, informed Paudel while others with minor injuries are receiving treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College, he added.

Vehicular movement along the road section had stopped for a while due to the accident.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the incident is underway.
