Siraha, February 10

An eleven-year-old girl was raped while she was feeding her cattle in Siraha Municipality.

The incident came to light two days after the incident when the victim was brought to the hospital due to excessive bleeding. It is said that the relatives of the accused have been pressurising the victim’s family to settle the case through reconciliation.

Suresh Thakur, 25, of the municipality has been accused of raping the girl while she was feeding the cattle at night on Thursday.

Police said Thakur had covered the mouth of the girl and raped. The victim was brought to district hospital, Siraha the same night, but it has referred the girl to another health facility. She is receiving treatment in a private hospital in Lahan.

“The condition of the minor is getting worse and she could not speak,” said a family member of the victim. The girl’s relatives said that the accused had raped the minor under the influence of the alcohol.

SP Shekhar Koirala at District Police Office, Siraha, said a team had been deployed to arrest the absconding rapist. SP Koirala added the process of filing a case against Thakur had been delayed as the victim’s family was yet to file an FIR. He informed the accused had fled when the police arrived but have detained the father Ram Lakhan Thakur and brother Jamin Thakur for further investigation.
