12-point pact obsolete: PM
Lekhnath, January 10:
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today said there was a need for another high-level understanding in order to take the peace process further.
Inaugurating a building of Pokhara University at Khudi in Lekhnath, Prachanda said, “The 12-point pact guided us thus far. A new understanding should replace it now.”
The PM said that Jana Andolan II, abolition of monarchy, CA polls and declaration of republic were guided by the 12-point pact, and that a new pact should be reached to guide the peace process further.
Ruling out an alternative to the Maoist-led government, Prachanda claimed that the government would last till the constitution was drafted, despite many challenges before the government. The PM said that a failure of the government would be a failure of other parties, and added, “The coalition partners are in the same boat. It it sinks, they will all sink, too.”
Pointing fingers at past governments for power crisis in the nation, he said, “The government’s predicament to enforce power cuts is credited to the past corrupt governments. We will pay any price for ensuring better power supply.” Prachanda said the cabinet would soon form a high-level education commission. He also said plans were afoot to send university graduates to villages to contribute to development activities. The PM is the chancellor of Pokhara University.
