12 temporary cops injured in Dolakha clash

Dolakha, December 18

As many as 12 agitating temporary police personnel were injured in a clash with security personnel, in Chairkot, Dolakha, today.

The temporary cops were staging a demonstration to protest ‘irregularities’ in their ration allowances.

The agitators said they had not been provided their ration allowances on a par with permanent police constables, as stated in their contract. They sustained injuries when police baton-charged them.

Sangita Nepali and Radha Karki were critically injured, while the remaining 10 others have suffered minor injuries in the incident. Both Karki and Nepali are receiving treatment at the district hospital in Charikot, said temporary cop Netra Kumari Ghatani.

The agitators have accused the district police office of reducing their ration allowances. “A deduction of Rs 60 per meal has been made for Nepal Police personnel, while Rs 95 has been deducted for the same for temporary police,” said injured Karki.

A total of 755 temporary police personnel in their uniform who had served in Dolakha took part in the demonstration. Meanwhile, a meeting of the 10 agitating temporary cops and DSP Rameshwor Karki ended inconclusively. The meeting was held at the District Police Office, Dolakha, today. DSP Karki has urged the agitators to halt their demonstration and settle the matter through talks.
