1,234 candidates to contest in polls in Panchthar

As many as 1,234 candidates, including independent candidates, filed their nominations for the upcoming civic polls in Panchthar yesterday.

According to District Election Office Panchthar, as many as 307 candidates filed their candidacy in Phidim Municipality, the only municipality of the district.

A total of 72 persons will be elected for the various posts including mayor, deputy mayor and ward chairpersons in the municipality. Seven persons each have fielded themselves for the post of mayor and deputy mayor while 66 candidates are vying for the post of ward chairpersons.

Likewise, as many as 119 candidates are vying for various posts including six chairpersons and seven deputy chairpersons in Yangwarak Rural Municipality while 115 candidates are vying for various posts in Hilihang Rural Municipality. As many as 158 persons including 10 candidates have filed their nominations for the post of chairperson and deputy chairperson in Falelung Rural Municipality, which comprises eight wards.

Similarly, a total of 172 candidates, including sixeach for the post of chairperson and deputy chairperson fielded themselves at Falgunanda Rural Municipality while as many as 165 candidates, including six each for the post of chairperson and deputy chairperson have filed their nominations in Miklajong Rural Municipality.

Similarly, 93 candidates, including four each for the post of chairperson and deputy chairperson fielded themselves for various posts in Tubewa Rural Municipality and 95 persons are vying for various posts in Kummayak Rural Municipality of the district.
