129 companies granted permission for minerals exploration

KATHMANDU: The Department of Mines and Geology has granted permission for the exploration of minerals to 129 individuals and companies across the country.

The Minerals Heritage Division of the Department carried out a study of the available minerals on the various parts of the country and granted the permission accordingly. Of the permitted mines, 52 are for limestone, four for quartz, five for red mud, 14 for coal, three for glass, 12 for talc, three for iron, three more marble, one for magnesite, one for zinc among others.

The division had carried out studies in 364 locations altogether, however, granted permission for the 129 locations only, said the division Chief Ram Prasad Ghimire.

Majority of the companies permitted are Nepalis, with four from India and three from China.
