12th Republic Day being observed across the nation today
KATHMANDU: Various programmes are being organised today nationwide to observe the 12th Republic Day (Ganatantra Diwas).
Among others, a special programme was held at the Nepal Army Pavilion in Tundikhel to mark the day. The programme was attended by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli along with other ministers and high-level officials.
On this occasion, the President is set to inaugurate the Republic Memorial Park located on the premises of Narayanhiti Palace Museum. Also, the President will be giving presidential pardons to 435 prisoners.
Likewise, the Republic Day is being observed in other parts of the country as well. A special programme was held in Hetauda of Province 3 in the presence of Governor Anuradha Koirala, Chief Minister Dormani Poudel, provincial ministers, provincial assembly members, high-level government officers and stakeholders from various organisations. After paying tribute to martyrs, the CM Poudel urged all the stakeholders to work together with the aim of making the dreams of the martyrs come true.
Several other programmes are being observed all over the nation to honour the people’s struggle and mark the day when Nepal was announced a republic state by the Constituent Assembly on Jestha 15, 2065 (May 28, 2008) ending the 240-year-old monarchy.
