13 held for thefts in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, January 5:

Ward Police Office Bouddha yesterday arrested six persons on charge of stealing property from the house of Dhaba Tamang at Bouddha a month ago.

According to the police, those arrested are Narayan Sharma, 28, of Dolakha, Manu Tamang alias Dhan Bahadur, 39, of Sindhupalchowk, Krishna Jung Tamang, 25, of Sindhupalchowk, Nabin Lama, 30, alias Tara of Sindhupalchowk, Hari Bahadur Basnet, 38, of Sankhuwasabha and Suraj Lama, 38, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Police has charged them of stealing property worth Rs 259,000.

Meanwhile, the police office on Tuesday arrested five persons from different places of the valley on charge of looting property worth Rs 100,000 from Khaolang monastery at Bouddha. Police said that they looted the property after taking people of monastery under control by showing pistol and khukuris.

Those arrested are Bijay Gurung alias Narayan of Nuwakot, Sundar Bahadur Tamang of Sindhupalchowk, Rajkumar Gurung, Amrit Tamang and Aashish Kumar Lama of Nuwakot. Police also seized cash Rs 75,000, a mobile set, a pistol and a khukuri.

In another case, Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB) on Wednesday arrested Bishnu Tamang of Makawanpur from his residence at Chandol on charge of stealing a taxi (Ba 1 Ja 159).

Tamang was driving the taxi by replacing the registration number plate with Ga 1 Cha 2080.

In another case, the VCIB arrested Govinda Nepali of Dhading on charge of stealing jewellry from the house of Manju Gurung at Dhapasi a month ago.

Meanwhile, police team from the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB), Hanumandhoka, on Tuesday arrested Sonam Lama, 21, on charge of murdering his friend Chet Bahadur Karki alias Kumar. Police had launched an investigation after a body was found in the Bagmati river near Tinkune on November 29.
