150 cubic feet of banned wood seized in Panchthar

PANCHTHAR: Police on Monday raided a furniture industry and confiscated 150 cubic feet of banned wood in Phidim Municipality of Panchthar district.

District Police Office, Panchthar raided Pathibhara Furniture Industry operated by Bikram Limbu at the district headquarters and seized logs of Sal and Sakhuwa trees that are banned from sale and logging.

Locals had protested against the raid at the business firms and tried to disrupt police action, however, police with the help of Armed Police Force, recovered the woods in tractors.

According to government evaluation, the value of recovered wood is Rs 300,000, while the market rate of the wood is Rs 500,000.

The recovered wood have been handed over to the Forest Office for further action, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bamdev Gautam at District Police Office, Panchthar.
