16 years on, Martadi-Kolti road still in limbo
BAJURA: Sixteen years passed, but the construction of Martadi-Kolit road is still in limbo in Bajura district.
The foundation stone for the construction of 43-km road was laid on February 19, 2000 by the then District Development Committee President Lal Bahadur Thapa. The work was agreed to be completed in 2003.
The road, however, is still under-construction till the date.
Thapa informed that lack of budget and insurgency were reasons behind the delay.
Billions of the rupees have been invested; however, the work is incomplete.
Even the completed section is also not fine thanks to recklessness during the construction, reportedly due to absence of monitoring.
Tractors operate upto Dansang, which is 38 km away the district headquarters Martadi, during the winter season. This road shuts during other seasons.
The vehicle operators claim that it has been hard to reach the destination on time due to lack of proper management of the road.
Rohita Regmi, an engineer of the District Development Committee, informed that the road was constructed without consulting impacts on the environment.
Wooden logs worth billions are also destroyed during the construction, causing problem to the human settlement.
