Biratnagar, January 19:

A total of 16,000 semi-transparent ballot boxes will arrive for the eastern region by mid-April, Morang district election office has said.

The Japanese government is providing the ballot boxes. Head of the office Mahesh Raj Timsina said the ballot boxes will be brought to the region soon after their arrival in Kathmandu. Up to 100 ballots can be cast in each box. The Morang district election office said in a press conference today that a special programme is being organised to conduct constituent assembly polls in the district by mid-June. Timsina said the final voters’ list will be published by February 26.

Presently, there are 5,67,640 eligible voters in Morang. According to the election commission, the names of those crossing 18 years of age on April 13 will be included in the voters’ list. According to the election office, there are over 6,15,000 voters in the district.

VDC secretaries and ward secretaries have been deputed to update voters’ list. A total of 624 enumerators will visit households for collecting data, the Morang district election office said. The district election office will also prepare a temporary voters’ list. Government employees, employees of semi-government bodies, jail inmates, PLA personnel living in cantonment sites will be included in the list.

President of the voters’ list coordination committee and CDO of Morang, Modraj Dotel, said those on the temporary voters’ list will be allowed to cast votes in election constituency No 204 only.
