17 families displaced
Dhading, July 19
Seven houses in remote Purum village of Ganga Jamuna Rural Municipality, Dhading, were buried under landslide yesterday displacing all 17 families of the village.
The families had left their houses at midnight on Sunday after landslide debris started falling from above following heavy downpour.
According to ward chairperson Faisingh Tamang, houses belonging to Dai Bahadur Tamang, Furwa Tamang, Manoj Tamang, Tiruwa Tamang, Dal Bahadur Tamang, Suk Bahadur and Khim Bahadur were buried.
“As the villagers had already vacated their houses sensing the landslide threat, they were saved. The landslide swallowed seven houses yesterday evening and scores of tethered cattle were trapped in those houses,” the ward chair said.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the District Natural Disaster Committee convened today and decided to immediately relocate the victims to safer ground and provide necessary relief.
