KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 13

At least 17 people have lost their lives in a bus accident at Bethanchowk, Sallathed in Kavrepalanchowk on Tuesday evening.

Police informed that around a dozen of others have sustained injuries when a bus (Ba 3 Kha 4385) met with the tragic accident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Dhundi Raj Neupane said 15 persons died on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries at Banepa-based Scheer Memorial Hospital.

Meanwhile, eight persons are undergoing treatment at the hospital while three seriously injured persons were referred to Kathmandu for further treatment.

The reserve bus was heading to Bethanchowk rural municipality-5 from Banepa-11 after attending a ceremony, said Chairperson of Bethanchowk rural municipality, Bhagawan Adhikari.

Most of the injured are in critical condition, Neupane informed. Nepal Police and Nepali Army were carrying out rescue operations on the spot, it was shared.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has directed the concerned authorities to carry out rescue of the injured immediately.
