18 kids rescued from circus

Eighteen Nepali children were rescued from Asia Circus in Sunsari district today. The circus, owned by Abdul Makar of Benaras, was in operation at Inaruwa from April 22. Local police, CWIN Helpline and UPKA, Nepal among others were involved in the rescue operation. Police Inspector Siddhi Bikram Shah said the children between four and 16 years of age were working in the circus for the last few years. Shah said the children had been forced to undertake the risky job adding they have been handed over to CWIN. According to police, Asia Circus has been shut down after the raid and the circus runner has been taken into custody.
