KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 24

Nepal Police estimates that up to 1.8 million people will leave Kathmandu Valley during this festive season, an increase of 500,000 compared to last year's Dashain festival.

Bishwaraj Khadka, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, stated that the figure could reach 1.8 million if weather conditions remain favorable. Last year, approximately 1.3 million people left the valley for their hometowns during the festival season.

Khadka also noted that stakeholders have been consulted to help reduce road accidents during the festive period. Factors such as poor road conditions, an excessive number of vehicles, overcrowding, and high-speed driving are identified as major causes of accidents in the country.

He further added that an integrated security plan is being developed in coordination with all three districts of the valley to mitigate the number of road accidents during the festival season.
