KATHMANDU, MAY 15

Nepal today reported an additional 8,046 new cases of coronavirus infection, taking the number of infected people to 447,704.

Among those testing positive for the infection today 2,937 are from Kathmandu valley - 2,146 from Kathmandu, 444 from Lalitpur and 347 from Bhaktapur.

Of the others, 505 tested positive for the infection in Banke, 495 in Rupandehi, 443 in Kailali, 354 in Morang, 293 in Kaski, 278 in Bardia, 275 in Dang, 198 in Makawanput, 185 in Surkhet, 184 in Kanchanpur, 173 in Jhapa, 118 in Dhanusha, 104 in Parsa, 103 in Myagdi, 99 in Sunsari, 80 in Tanahun, 79 in Nuwakot, 78 in Dailekh, 73 in Palpa, 71 in Mahottari, 70 in Kavrepalanchowk, 62 in Doti, 59 in Gorkha, 58 each in Saptari and Ramechhap, 44 in Nawalparasi, 43 in Siraha, 38 each in Dhading and Dadeldhura, 36 in Rautahat, 35 in Kapilvastu, 34 in Sindhupalchowk, 32 in Syangja, 31 in Rolpa, 30 in Sindhuli, 29 in Bara, 28 in Arghakhanchi and 19 each in Tehrathum and Chitwan.

Similarly, 15 people each tested positive for the contagion in Sarlahi and Salyan, 13 in Gulmi, 12 each in Taplejung and Bhojpur, 11 in Baglung, nine in Baitadi, seven in Udayapur, six each in Okhaldhunga and Dolakha, five each in Rasuwa, Pyuthan, and Jajarkot, four each in Ilam and Solukhumbu, three each in Khotang, Nawalparasi East, Lamjung, Rukum East, Jumla and Achham, two each in Parbat, Kalikot, and Darchula, and one each in Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Dolpa, Rukum West and Bajhang.

The new infections were confirmed after PCR testing of 17,971 samples in the past 24 hours. Among the 577 antigen tests, 121 tested positive.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 1,331 people are under intensive care - 92 in Province 1, 199 in Province 2, 554 in Bagmati, 98 in Gandaki, 140 in Lumbini, 101 in Karnali, and 47 in Sudurpaschim Province.

Altogether, 370 people are on ventilator care - 54 in Province 1, 48 in Province 2, 219 in Bagmati, 20 in Gandaki, 11 in Lumbini, eight in Karnali, and 10 in Sudurpaschim.

Of the 109,740 active cases of coronavirus infection across the country, 42,225 are in Kathmandu valley. There are 30,124 active cases in Kathmandu, 5,000 in Bhaktapur and 7,101 in Lalitpur.

As per the Ministry of Health and Population, 5,455 people were discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours. With this, the number of people who have recovered stands at 333,108.

The recovery rate is 74.4 per cent.

The health ministry said 35 districts - Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Parsa, Mahottari, Bara, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Kaski, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East, Tanahun, Dang, Banke, Rupandehi, Palpa, Bardia, Kapilvastu, Arghakhanchi, Nawalparasi West, Surkhet, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi and Achham districts have more than 500 active cases.

There are 675 people staying in quarantine facilities across the country.

Nepal reported 187 COVID deaths in the past 24 hours.

The total number of people who have succumbed to the respiratory infection as of today is 4,856. The death rate is 1.4 per cent.
