2 dead, 12 injured in Tanahun jeep accident

DAMAULI: Two persons lost their lives while 12 others were injured in a jeep accident at Ghansikuwa of Byas Municipality-12 along the Damauli-Dumre road section of Prithvi Highway in Tanahun district, Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Buddhi Bahadur Thapa (75) of Bandipur Rural Municipality-3 and jeep driver Bimal Gharti (35) of Byas Municipality-14, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Tanahun District Police Office, Shyamu Aryal.

DSP Aryal further informed, both Thapa and Gharti, who were critically injured in the incident, breathed their last during the course of treatment at Damauli Hospital.

The incident occurred when the jeep (Ga 1 Ja 2907), en route to Damauli from Bandipur, fell 60 metres below the road after one of the front tires of the vehicle suddenly exploded.

Meanwhile, the injured are receiving treatment at various health facilities. Preparations are on to take critically injured Devi Maya Thapa Magar of Bandipur Rural Municipality-3 to Pokhara.

Others with minor injuries are being treated at Damauli Hospital and Ratna Hari Hospital in the district.

Bodies of the deceased have been kept at Damauli Hospital for post mortem and further investigation into the case is underway, stated police.
