2 dead, 2 injured as jeep plunges 100 metres in Rasuwa

KATHMANDU: Two persons died on the spot and two others sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling on fell below the road in Aamachodingmo Rural Municipality-5 of Rasuwa district on Tuesday night.

Police have identified the deceased as Shivagunj Rajbanshi (45) of Morang district and Bikash Gharti (24) of Dang district; and injured as Gautam Aryal of Nawalparasi, and Jeevan Rai of Dharan, Sunsari.

The incident occurred when the hydropower chemical-laden Bolero jeep (Ba 17 Ta 5345) en route from Siu Tundi Construction to Bajra Construction lost control and plunged around 100 metres below in Shimbu at 8:00 pm, according to Police Post Thambuchet.

The injured duo have been undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Dhunche.

It has been learnt that Rajbansi operated the dozer and Gharti was a medical personnel with the under-construction Sanjen Hydroelectricity Project there.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway and search is on for the absconding jeep driver, Prakash Tamang of Dhading, who fled the incident site, police said.
