2 held with illegal Nepali, Indian currencies
PARSA: Two persons were arrested with illegal Nepali and Indian currencies from different parts of Birgunj on Saturday.
The suspects have been identified as Ranjit Sarraf (22) and Manu Tiwari (17) of Birgunj, informed DSP Chakra Raj Joshi of the District Police Office, Parsa.
Police said that Sarraf was nabbed with Rs 1.5 million which he had hidden in a bag.
Sarraf was arrested while he was entering Nepal from India.
Similarly, Tiwari was apprehended with IRS 200,000 and Rs 1.5 million from Rajat Jayanti Chok.
Police detained him while he was travelling to Birgunj from Raxual.
Preparations are underway to send Tiwari to the Revenue Office in Pathalaiya and Sarraf to Department of the Money Laundering Investigation for further investigation.
With the Indian Government banning its 500 and 1,000 currency notes, trade of notes has increased at the border areas, police added.
