KATHMANDU: Police on Saturday arrested two persons with possession of two pieces of endangered Red Panda hide from Birtamod-6, Jhapa.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint police team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau and the Area Police Office, Anarmani nabbed Ruk Bir Rai of Phalaicha-9 of Panchthar district and Kamal Kumar Mangmu of Sadewa-4, Taplejung district and currently residing at Saniarjun Municipality-9 of Jhapa.

Police said that the detainees along with the seized hide have been handed over to the District Forest Office, Chandragadi, Jhapa, for investigation.

Anyone involved in trading in conserved species could be slapped a fine of up to Rs 100,000 and a five to 15 years jail term.
