2 hurt in Rautahat clash over school election

RAUTAHAT: Two persons sustained bullet injuries in Dharhari village of Rautahat district after some unidentified persons opened fire during a clash over election to a school management committee.

The clash had ensued after the votes cast were found to be more than the number of voters during the election to the local Jaya Kisan Higher Secondary School Management Committee yesterday.

Sambhu Prasad Sah of Dharhari-4 and Tait Pandit of Dharhari-5 were injured and they have been rushed to the National Medical College, Birgunj.

Total 23 more votes were found cast than the actual number of voters.

Three persons had filed candidacies for the chairperson's post. While one of them was supported by the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and the CPN Maoist Centre had backed the second candidate. The third candidate was independent.

Meanwhile, police had taken the ballot boxes to the district headquarters Gaur after the clash between the two major panels – supported by NC and UML-Maoist Centre – continued till the evening.

Police had resorted to baton charge to control the situation in the headquarters also.

Chief District Officer Narahari Baral said police nabbed some suspects in connection to the incident.

SP Ganesh Regmi said police are looking into the case.
