2 killed, 19 injured in Sarlahi bus accident

SARLAHI: Two persons died while 19 others sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling on fell below the road in Hariban Municipality-4 along the East-West Highway in Sarlahi on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Raj Kumari Chaudhary (36) and Rita Chaudhary (23), both of Rapti in Dang.

According to police, the bus (Na 5 Kha 4488), en route to Kakadbhitta from Dang, skidded off the road after it lost control and plunged some 10 metres below in Hariban at around 4:50 am, killing one on the spot and injuring 20 others, informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Singh Rathore, Chief of District Police Office, Sarlahi. One of the critically injured died on the way to Birgunj Hospital, added SP Rathore.

According to police, five persons including the bus driver are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at Birgunj-based Neuro Hospital while three others injured are being treated at Namuna Hospital, Hariban.

Meanwhile, nine passengers with minor injuries are undergoing treatment at Swabhiman Hospital, Hariban, police added.

There were 30 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, SP Rathore informed.
