MAHOTTARI: Two women were killed and 21others injured when they were buried in a mudslide from a cliff at Hattilet-1 in Mahottari district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Panchamaya Pariyar, 26 and Narwada Purbachhane, 30 of Kisannagar-8, the Bardibas Area Police Office said, adding that they died instantly.

Pampha Pariyar, Manu Pariyar and Manmaya Darlami whose condition is reported to be critical in the incident have been undergoing treatment in Janakpur and others are being treated in a local health post, police said.

The women had gone to collect clay for the purpose of coating their houses at Hattilet but soil loosened by their digging fell on them when they were collecting the clay.

Locals and police rescued the survivors.
