KALIKOT: A clash erupted between the cadres of the UCPN-Maoist and the CPN-UML on Sunday afternoon in Manma, Kalikot, leaving at least 20 persons injured.

UML district secretary Kurma Raj Shahi, Youth Force district in-charge Durga Bahadur Shahi and district Committee member Bharat Raj Dhital were thrashed by the Maoist cadres in the scuffle.

The class ensued after the Maoists started attacking the UML cadres at the UML party office with knives and sticks for defying the Sunday's Bheri-Karnali bandh. The injured have been airlifted to Nepalgunj for treatment.

Police fired several shots in the air and used rounds of teargas shells to take the situation under control. A similar incident had occurred in Kalikot between the Maoists and the NC cadres some two weeks ago.
