37 rescued from Koshi boat capsize; over 20 still missing

BHOJPUR: As many as 37 persons have been rescued from the Koshi River after a boat capsize incident in Sunsari of eastern Nepal on Saturday.

Over 20 are still missing since the incident, according to Sunsari District Police Office Chief SP Posharaj Pokharel.

The exact number of the missing could not be ascertained as police are clueless about how many people were on board the boat, according to police.

Search for the missing is underway.

Over 20 missing as boat capsizes in Koshi River

KATHMANDU: More than 20 persons have been gone missing after a boat capsized in the Koshi River in Sunsari district of eastern Nepal on Saturday.

According to the Sunsari District Police Office, the boat was heading towards Prakashpur from Sri Lanka Island of Sunsari when the incident occurred.

DSP Biraj Ghimire of the DPO said that there were around 50 persons on board the boat when the incident took place at around 11:45 am today.

DSP Ghimire said that at least 22 persons were rescued.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has been deployed for the search and rescue operation.
