BHAKTAPUR, JULY 26

Twenty-one trees were removed from the roadside in Sallaghari of Bhaktapur following the death of three people who were hit by a falling tree on July 24.

On Sunday, a tree accidentally fell and crushed a passenger bus and a scooter in motion, killing three on the spot and leaving 12 injured.

Of the dead, two were bus passengers while the other was the scooter rider.

According to Bhaktapur's Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma, the trees that were unsafe were cut down following the fatal accident. Employees of Division Forest Office, Bhaktapur, marked the vulnerable trees before felling them.

"The expert teams assessed the trees along the Sallaghari-Dudhpati route and marked them unsafe for public. The trees marked unsafe by the expert teams have been cut down," she said.

Likewise, Khwopa Minibus Service Committee has agreed to bear the treatment cost of the injured. Of them, one has been already discharged, and 11 are undergoing treatment at Dr Iwamura Memorial Hospital Sallaghari and Bhaktapur International Hospital, Kaushaltar.

Scooter rider Raj Kumar Bhujel of Harion, Sarlahi, Bishesh Khaburja of Byasi, Bhaktapur, and Nhuchheram Bakhatyo of Bhaktapur Municipality were killed in the accident.
