Four motorcycles abandoned during police operation; riders flee
RAUTAHAT, NOVEMBER 24
Police seized four motorcycles loaded with 22 bags of smuggled chemical fertilizer that had been transported from India into Nepal through a forest route, on today morning, in Rautahat district.
The motorcycles were recovered from a canal edge in Gujara Municipality–2, Maira, after riders abandoned the vehicles and fled upon spotting a police patrol around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off about smuggling activity, a team from the Rangpur Police Post was deployed to the canal area, according to the Area Police Office. The smugglers escaped when police arrived.
DSP Rupa Labung of Chandrapur Area Police Office said police had received intelligence that smugglers were transporting fertilizer from Indian markets into Nepal through a forest route toward Chandrapur.
The seized motorcycles bore registration numbers Na 24 Pa 6232, BR 300 N 2752, BR 33 Y 5302, and BR 05 N 8983.
Preparations are underway to transfer the recovered fertilizer and motorcycles to Gaur Customs Office for further investigation, while police continue searching for the absconding riders, DSP Labung added.
