26 houses at high risk of landslide in Panchthar

At least 26 houses are at high risk of landslide at Phalgunanda Rural Municipality in Panchthar.

The houses from Wards 3 to 7 in the rural municipality have been placed at high risk of landslides after the mud above the houses and under the houses began to flow due to continuous rainfall.

Vice-president of Nepal Red-cross Society District Chapter Chhedilal Thakur said almost all families were displaced after the mud began to slip both above and under the houses.

District Disaster Management Committee has deployed a team under the leadership of Thakur to monitor the site after the ward offices through the rural municipality collected statistics.

During the inspection, it was found that three houses of Ward No 3, 12 of Ward No 4, four of Ward No 5, three of Ward No 6 and four of Ward No 7 were at high risk of landslides.

Chief Administrative Officer Anil Trikhati of the rural municipality said that preparations were under way to provide relief materials to the displaced families from July 17 after the disaster management meeting.

Earlier, 16 houses of Yangbarak Rural Municipality were displaced due to landslides.

Chief District Officer Murari Wasti said that the houses at Phalelung and Phidim were also at high risk of landslides.

Similarly, families of two houses at Saunedanda of Bhojpur Municipality are also at high risk of landslide. The families of Bidur Rai and Raj Kumar Rai were displaced due to landslides. They have been sheltering with their relatives.
