A total of 2,925 candidates had registered their nominations in 165 constituencies across the country under the first-past-the-post electoral system for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, as of 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference organized by the Election Commission (EC) this evening following the filing of candidacies, EC Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut said that the Commission's system had recorded the nominations of 336 female and 2,589 male candidates. He added that the number could still rise, as the verification process was ongoing in several constituencies.
Mustang recorded the lowest number of candidates, with only four nominations filed.
Similarly, five candidates registered their nominations in Manang, Raut said, adding that the nomination process in both districts has been finalized.
The highest number of nominations was registered in Rupandehi constituencies 2 and 3, with 35 candidates each. While the nomination process in Rupandehi constituency 2 has been finalized, verification is still underway in constituency 3.
According to reports received from the offices of the returning officers, the nomination process was conducted peacefully across the country.
The submission of nomination papers was scheduled from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm today.
