2nd Bhojpur Mundum Ultra Trail Race 2075 to begin tomorrow

BHOJPUR: Preparations have been completed for the '2nd Bhojpur Mundum Ultra Trail Race 2075', which is being organised in honour of trail runner Mira Rai, who specialises in ultra distance mountain races.

The organisers have informed that 90 per cent preparations have been completed for the competition that is going to begin from Friday. The competition, which is being organised to promote the touristic trail, will see participation of 80 runners from within and outside the district.

As many as 17 female runners would be participating in the race, including 14 from within the district and three from outside. Likewise, 63 male runners will participate, including 51 from within the district and 12 from outside, said organisers.

The 52-km long race would begin from Tundikhel in the district headquarters of Bhojpur and will pass through Siddhakali Temple, Kafle, Dhapkharka, Suntale, Baghkhor, Pasegaira, Chuchche Gumba before reaching the touristic spot of Maiyunga Danda. The runners would then trace back the same route concluding the race at Tundikhel from where it would begin, according to Pawihang Rai, Chair of Rimachung Education and Sports Academy, Bhojpur.

Rai further said, the race is being organised to honour ultra runner Mira Rai and to develop sports in the district. Due to adverse weather conditions, runners over the age of 16 years would only be allowed to participate in the event.

In the individual race, the prizes for first, second, third, fourth and fifth places would carry purses of Rs 50000, Rs 25000, Rs 15000, Rs 10000 and Rs 5000 respectively, along with a trophy, medal and certificate. Likewise, in the group race, the winning group, first runner-up and second runner-up would get prize money of Rs 10000, Rs 8000 and Rs 5000 respectively, along with a trophy and certificate.

The race is being organised by the District Sports Development Committee, Bhojpur, while National Sports Council is the main sponsor. Likewise, Rimachung Education and Sports Academy is coordinating the race while Timma Sarokar Manch, Kathmandu, Danwali Milan Club and Nepal Mountain Sky Running Association have jointly provided technical support for the competition.
