The GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), a corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of GMR Group, has concluded a 3-month vocational training program in Delhi for locals of the Upper Karnali Hydropower project-900 MW, located in the Karnali province of Nepal.

The CSR initiative selected 23 candidates from the project-affected VDCs in Dailekh and Surkhet districts of Karnali province.

The program provided residential courses at the Vocational Training Institute (VTI) in Delhi under various categories from January to March 2023. The trainees, consisting of 16 men and 7 women, were offered courses ranging from basic computer skills, basic electrical and house wiring, basic welding and fabrication, excavator operation, and multi-cuisine cooking.

In addition to the courses, some other classes related to personality development, basic English, personal hygiene, and yoga were conducted.

All trainees successfully completed their 3-month vocational training, which had a significant positive impact on their life skills, such as communication, time management, problem-solving, and teamwork, useful in both personal and professional settings. The program also helped improve their self-esteem and confidence, the press release said.

Sanjay Barde, CEO of GMR Energy, handed over certificates to the trainees after completion of the course. The entire cost related to this training program, including travel, logistics, boarding, and food, was borne by the Project Co. (GUKHL).
