300 quintals of rice supplied to starving Sankhuwasabha

Sankhuwasabha, July 2:

Three hundred quintals of rice have recently been brought to Khandbari, the Sankhuwasabha district headquarters, for distribution in food shortage-hit northern Village Development Committees of the district.

The rice delivered to Khandbari is meant for Kimathanka, Chepuwa, Hatiya and Pawakhola in the remote northern part of the district, said head of the district office of Nepal Food Corporation Om Upadhyaya.

"The rice will be distributed to the people in the presence of local political parties.

The consignment of rice arrived in Khandbari in line with the recent understanding among the political parties," the NFC official said.

"Of the supplied rice, 70 quintals each will be dispatched to Hatiya, Chepuwa and Pawakhola, and 40 quintals to Kimathanka. A consignment of 50 quintals of rice has already been delivered for Barun festival," the Nepal Food Corporation official said.

People here depend on Chinese towns of Dendang and Riyu for supply of food and other essentials but they have not been able to buy food from the Chinese markets after the Chinese security officials sealed the border, citing security concerns for Beijing Olympics.
